What materials are needed for a composite filling?
A direct composite restoration requires phosphoric acid etchant to prepare the tooth surface, a bonding agent applied with micro applicators, composite resin (both flowable for lining and packable for bulk), and articulating paper to check the occlusion afterwards. This kit contains all of these.
Why is shade A2 the most common composite shade?
A2 sits in the middle of the VITA classical shade range and matches average adult dentition more often than any other single shade. It is the highest-turnover stock shade in UK general dental practice.
What is the difference between flowable and packable composite?
Flowable composite has lower viscosity and flows into fine cavity margins and undercuts, making it ideal as a liner or for small restorations. Packable composite is sculptable and has higher compressive strength, suited to larger load-bearing posterior fillings. Using both together gives the best of each.
How long should etching gel be left on the tooth?
37% phosphoric acid etchant is typically applied for 15–30 seconds on enamel and 10–15 seconds on dentine, then rinsed thoroughly for at least 10 seconds. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific bonding protocol.
